About the Project
Moving Pathways Forward: Supporting Career Pathways Integration was a three-year initiative to assist states in advancing career pathways systems to transition low-skilled adults to postsecondary education and employment. By building upon the successes and lessons learned from earlier federal and state investments in career pathways, the project sought to further integrate adult education into career pathways system development at the state and local levels. Moving Pathways Forward provided targeted technical assistance services and tools to states and distributed career pathways information to all interested stakeholders. The project was funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education. Several resources developed under the project are available to the field:
- The Career Pathways Planner: A Guide for Adult Education State Leaders to Promote Local Career Pathways Systems
- The Career Pathways Exchange

Technical Assistance
Moving Pathways Forward provided targeted technical assistance services to assist all states in the development and implementation of their career pathways systems and facilitate local programs’ provision of career pathways services. States accessed resources and guidance to assist them in assessing their career pathways-related needs, identifying goals for their project activities, and determining planning steps to strengthen and expand key career pathways system components.
The project also provided intensive technical assistance services to 13 states through dedicated coaches for the duration of the project. The following states were selected through an open application process to work with the project to enhance their career pathways state activities: Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
