Abstract

This 15+ hour child development curriculum contains instructional and support materials that build English language, technology, and soft skills within career-specific units of instruction.  Included are unit materials with instructor guidelines, unit benchmarks, instructions for a culminating activity, and short videos of adults reading to toddlers.  The course provides pre-bridge instruction in essential skills and vocabulary needed for success in the career preparation course, Child Development.

Benefits and Uses

Students will be able to:  (1) Scan documents for key information; ask questions and take notes; (2) Make a brief verbal and visual presentation; (3) Explain wage and growth rate information about various positions; (4) Complete a library card application correctly; (5) Write a report; (6) Build vocabulary by finding context clues; (7) Apply criteria to a choice of age-appropriate books; and (8) Read aloud with fluency and expression.
